Who at West Point Medical Centre has access to patient information?
It is important that the NHS keeps accurate and up-to-date records about your health and treatment so that those treating you can provide the best possible care.

We have a fully computerised medical record system which means information about your healthcare is held electronically on a secure on-site server.
Your medical data is closely protected by regulations of the Data Protection Act 2018. West Point Medical Centre, as a registered data controller under the Data Protection Act 1998, has the responsibility to ensure that your medical record remains confidential whilst you are a registered patient of the practice.
All patient information at West Point Medical Centre is held, retained and destroyed in accordance with NHS guidelines and is available only to appropriate health services staff in order to provide optimum health care.
All clinicians and members of staff of West Point Medical Centre are contractually bound to ensure that confidentiality is maintained with regards to your medical record, even if they leave the practice. All clinicians and members of staff who view your medical record must have a valid reason for so doing and an audit trail of activity by all users is available for records stored electronically.
If you have any concerns regarding use of your medical records and access to your own records, please ask for more information from our practice manager.
You have the right to know what information we hold about you. If you wish to request access to your medical records under the terms of the Data Protection Act 1998, please write to the practice’s data controller. Your written request, known as a subject access request, should include details of your name, date of birth. the address we hold on your file and your signature. A fee will be payable for this service.
You are able to obtain more information about your rights under the Data Protection Act 1998 from the Information Commissioners Office.
